New Features Complement Leading Interactive Electoral College Map
ATLANTA, GA - June 4, 2008 - As the primary season ends and all eyes turn toward the contest between presumptive nominees John McCain and Barack Obama, 270toWin.com today announced the launch of a number of new options to help people follow this historic race through Election Day on November 4th. These options will complement the site's existing features, including an interactive Electoral College map for 2008 and maps and history associated with all 55 prior U.S. presidential elections.
The Road to 270 allows everyone to be a political strategist. For a given interactive map (of red, blue & undecided states), it provides a list of every critical path to 270 electoral votes. As the map is updated, the number of combinations dynamically updates.
The Probability of 270 turns state-level polls into probabilities. For a given interactive map, it provides the statistical probability that each candidate will reach 270 electoral votes. As the map is updated, the probabilities dynamically update. Separately, the site provides a polling map that reflects which candidate is stronger in each state.
2008 Election Simulator takes the probabilities discussed above and uses them to run simulated elections. Visitors to the site can run their own simulations. The 1,000 most recent simulations are aggregated, providing some context to the range of likely outcomes, based on current polls.
State Voting Trends provides historical context for each of the 50 states and DC. It includes information on how every state has voted in each prior election along with a short state history, recent polls for 2008 and a projection for the 2008 election based on both current polling and historical trends for the state.
Polling Map displays a projected electoral college map for 2008 based on current polls. The country is divided into swing states, states leaning toward one candidate over the other, and states that are safe for one of the candidates.
Maine & Nebraska enables the split of electoral votes in those two states, the only ones that have (by law) a proportional allocation. Such a split has never occurred in either state - and is unlikely in 2008 - although it can't be ruled out in the Congressional district covering Omaha.
Interactive Senate Map lets users project the party make-up of the Senate in the 111th Congress. 35 Senate seats are up for grabs across 33 states.
