Alabama Sen. Tommy Tuberville will run for Alabama governor in 2026. He will look to follow fellow Republican, Gov. Kay Ivey, who is ineligible to run for a third term.

The decision has been anticipated for a while, with Tuberville largely clearing the GOP field even before his official announcement. Last week, Lt. Gov. Will Ainsworth said he would not run. 

The Republican nominee will be heavily favored in this deep red state. Alabama last elected a Democratic governor in 1998. Ivey was reelected by a 67% to 29% margin over her Democratic challenger in 2022.

Pennsylvania Primaries

Pittsburgh Mayor

Mayor Ed Gainey lost his bid for renomination to a second term. Allegheny County Controller Corey O'Connor will be a heavy favorite over Republican Tony Moreno in the November general election. Pittsburgh has not elected a Republican mayor since just after the stock market crash of 1929.

Pennsylvania Primary

The Mayor of Pittsburgh and Philadelphia's District Attorney, both Democrats, will need to prevail against credible challengers to win renomination. There are also two appellate court primaries. The general election is November 4.

New York State Senate District 22

Sunday's presidential runoff in Romania will end an election saga that began last November. The outcome will have major implications for the future political direction of this EU and NATO member country.

Per The Washington Post, "Exit polls will give us an idea of who is winning after polls close at 9 p.m. Sunday [2 p.m. Eastern Time]. If it is neck-and-neck, definitive results might not be announced until early Monday."

One way to track the direction of the outcome is by following the prediction markets, which have tightened considerably since the first round of voting on May 4. These markets should respond quickly to any data released after the voting ends.

Omaha Mayor

While the election was officially nonpartisan, Republican Mayor Jean Stothert lost to Democratic Douglas County Treasurer John Ewing Jr. (D). Stothert, Omaha's first female mayor, was denied a record 4th term. Ewing will be the city's first Black mayor.

On Tuesday, residents of Omaha will elect a mayor. There are also a number of legislative special elections.

Ohio Infrastructure Ballot Measure

By a more than 2-1 margin, voters approved a renewal of this measure authorizing state government to issue up to $2.5 billion in general obligation bonds to assist local governments in paying for public infrastructure projects.

This Tuesday's elections include mayoral primaries in Cincinnati and Toledo. All voters in Ohio will be able to weigh in on an infrastructure bond amendment. There is also a State House special primary in New Hampshire.

Infrastructure Ballot Measure

Ohio Issue 2 is a proposed amendment to the State Constitution. It would allow the state government to issue up to $2.5 billion in general obligation bonds to assist local governments in paying for public infrastructure projects. No more than $250 million of these bonds can be issued in any one year.

Rep. Robin Kelly (IL-02) announced she is running for U.S. Senate in 2026. Kelly hopes to succeed her fellow Democrat, Sen. Dick Durbin, who is retiring after five terms.

This is the first open Senate race in Illinois since 2010 and the nomination will be fiercely contested. Already announced is Lt. Gov. Juliana Stratton, who has the support of Gov. JB Pritzker and the state's other Senator, Tammy Duckworth. It has been widely reported that two of Kelly's House colleagues, Reps. Raja Krishnamoorthi (IL-08) and Lauren Underwood (IL-14) are also interested in a promotion.
