New York State Senate District 22
Democrats hold a large 40-22 edge over Republicans in the New York State Senate. There is one vacancy. Members serve two-year terms; the next regular elections are in 2026.
District 22 is entirely within the Brooklyn borough of New York City. Simcha Felder resigned in April after winning a special election for a seat on the City Council.
While Felder is a Democrat, he was also the nominee of the Republican and Conservative parties in 2024. Appearing on all three lines of the ballot, and only facing write-in opposition, he received over 99% of the vote.
In the special election, Sam Sutton is the Democratic nominee, while Nachman Caller represents the GOP and Conservative Party. This is expected to be a competitive election; Donald Trump won 77% of the vote within the district's boundary in 2024.
Polls close at 9:00 PM Eastern Time.
