The nation’s governorships are nearly evenly split between the two parties, with 26 Republicans and 24 Democrats holding office. Three states - Kentucky, Louisiana, and Mississippi - will hold gubernatorial elections in 2023. Another 11 states follow in 2024. The table below the map lists the current governors of all 50 states, tabbed by the next election year.

July 21: Washington moves from Safe to Leans Democratic. Earlier this week, New Hampshire moved from Safe Republican to toss-up after Gov. Chris Sununu passed on running for reelection.
