The states on this map voted for the same party for (at least) the four presidential elections prior to 2016. In fact, all the Democratic states here, comprising 242 electoral votes, had gone blue since at least 1992. Donald Trump won the 2016 presidential election by taking 100 electoral votes from this 'blue wall' and flipping them.
