Kinzinger likely would have had an uphill battle to win a 7th term. The redistricting map approved Friday by the Illinois legislature sets up what likely would have been a primary battle between Kinzinger and Rep. Darin LaHood, a more reliable Trump ally. The state is losing a congressional district based on apportionment after the 2020 Census.
