President

Governor

There are 11 states holding gubernatorial contests in 2024. Only North Carolina is seen as a true toss-up by almost every forecaster.  The primaries will likely be less suspenseful. Attorney General Josh Stein (D) and Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson (R) are favored.

U.S. House

The Republican-controlled General Assembly passed a midcycle redistricting very favorable to the party's prospects. Currently, the delegation is split 7-7; Republicans are expected to pick up 3-4 seats in November.

This has sent several Democratic incumbents to the exits.

District Party Comments
1 R This district moved slightly to the right, making it a true toss-up. Freshman Rep. Don Davis (D) will face either Sandy Smith or Laurie Buckhout. A controversial figure, Smith has been the nominee here in the last two cycles; a Buckhout win better positions the GOP to flip the seat in November.
6 R Redistricting moved from Biden +12% to Trump +16%, making it all but impossible for Democrat Kathy Manning to win a third term. She retired, and no Democrat is running, making the GOP primary winner all but certain to be the next representative. Six candidates are on the ballot.
8 R Republican Dan Bishop is running for Attorney General. Six candidates are competing to replace him, including pastor Mark Harris, whose apparent 2018 win in NC-09 was not certified due to fraud.
10 R After a brief tenure as interim House Speaker, McHenry decided to retire. Five Republicans are looking to replace him in this safe GOP district.
13 R Redistricting moved this toss-up district to Trump +17%, sending freshman Democrat Wiley Nickel to the exits. There are 14 Republicans on the ballot
14 R Redistricting changed this seat from Biden +16% to Trump +16%. That was enough to convince Jeff Jackson to see the Democratic nomination for Attorney General. State House Speaker Tim Moore is a heavy favorite in the primary, and should be again in November.
