Legislative Special Elections
These are ordered by poll closing times.
Florida State Senate District 19
Republicans hold a 27-10 margin over Democrats in the Florida Senate. There is an independent, and two vacancies. The even-numbered districts will be up for a four-year term in 2026.
District 19 was vacated by Republican Randy Fine after he won an April 1 special election for the state's 6th congressional district. Fine defeated Democrat Vance Ahrens by a 59% to 41% margin in 2024.
Ahrens is back on the ballot for this special election. Debbie Mayfield is the Republican nominee. She advanced in a four-way primary also held April 1.
Mayfield previously served in this seat, including two years as Majority Leader of the Senate. Ineligible to run in 2024 due to consecutive term limit laws, she won election to the State House. If she is successful Tuesday, her return trip to the Senate will be the fastest in Florida history.
Polls close at 7:00 PM Eastern Time.
The other vacancy is in District 15. Democrat Geraldine Thompson died in February. A special election will be held on September 2, preceded by primaries on June 24.
Florida State House Districts 3 and 32
Republicans also dominate the Florida House of Representatives, controlling 85 seats. There are 33 Democrats and two vacancies. Members serve two-year terms; the next regular elections are in 2026.
The two vacancies will be filled Tuesday.
District 32: Republican Debbie Mayfield submitted her resignation in January; it was effective Monday. She is the GOP nominee in Tuesday's State Senate special election (see above).
Mayfield defeated Democrat Juan Hinojosa by a 64% to 36% margin in 2024. Hinojosa is back on the special election ballot; he was unopposed for the party nomination.
The GOP primary was a highly competitive three-way race. Brian Hodgers won with 35% of the vote; both his challengers had more than 30% support as well.
Polls close at 7:00 PM Eastern Time.
District 3: Republican Joel Rudman resigned at the beginning of the year to run in the special election for the state's first congressional district. He was defeated in the party primary on January 28.
Rudman won by a 78% to 22% margin in 2024. Nathan Boyles advanced from a GOP primary field of eight. Dondre Wise was unopposed for the Democratic nomination.
This Panhandle district is in the Central Time Zone; polls for the special election close at 8:00 PM Eastern.
Massachusetts State House District 3rd Bristol
Democrats hold a large 133-25 supermajority over Republicans in the Massachusetts House. There is one independent and one vacancy to be filled Tuesday. Members serve two-year terms; the next elections are in 2026.
District 3rd Bristol became open when Democrat Carol Doherty died in February. Doherty was unopposed for reelection in 2024. The last contested election - in 2022 - saw Doherty win by a 57% to 43% margin.
Lisa Field (D) and Lawrence Quintal (R) are the nominees.
Polls close at 8:00 PM Eastern Time.
Oklahoma State House Districts 71, 74, and 97
Three seats in the 101-member Oklahoma House of Representatives are vacant. These will all be filled Tuesday.
For the seats currently occupied, Republicans hold an 80-18 supermajority. Members serve two-year terms; the next elections are in 2026.
Polls close at 8:00 PM Eastern Time.
District 71: Democrat Amanda Swope resigned in January. Swope was unopposed in 2024. In 2022, she defeated her Republican opponent by a 61% to 39% margin.
The nominees are Amanda Clinton (D) and Beverly Atteberry (R).
District 74: Republican Mark Vancuren resigned at the end of 2024. Vancuren defeated an independent challenger to be reelected by a 76% to 24% margin in 2024.
The nominees are Kevin Norwood (R) and Amy Hossain (D).
District 97: Democrat Jason Lowe resigned in April. Lowe was unopposed in 2024; he defeated his Republican challenger by a 72% to 28% margin in 2022.
The Democratic primary features JeKia Harrison and Aletia Timmons. No Republicans or independents are contesting the seat. As a result, the general election will be cancelled and the winner of this primary will be the next representative.
