Six-term Sen. Richard Shelby is retiring. He endorsed his former Chief of Staff, Katie Britt, who won a closely-contested Republican primary. She is heavily favored in this deep red state.
Gov. Kay Ivey is favored to win a second full term.
These elections will be conducted using redistricted boundaries, although there was little change from those in place over the last decade. Rep. Mo Brooks retired from District 5 in an unsuccessful U.S. Senate bid. All districts look safe for the incumbent party.
