State Legislative Special Primaries
Massachusetts State Senate District Worcester and Hampshire
Democrats hold an overwhelming 36-3 supermajority in the Massachusetts State Senate. Members serve two-year terms; the next regular elections are in 2024.
Most districts are named after counties at least partially within its borders. District Worcester and Hampshire is located in the central part of the state. The seat was previously held by Anne Gobi (D), who resigned in June. Gobi was elected by a fairly narrow 54% to 46% margin in 2022.
Bruce Chester and Peter Durant are competing for the Republican nomination. The winner will meet Democrat Jonathan Zlotnik - who is unopposed - in the November 7 general election. Durant and Zlotnik are both currently serving in the State House.
Polls close at 8:00 PM Eastern Time.
Oklahoma State Senate District 32
The Oklahoma State Senate is dominated by Republicans, who hold a 39 seat supermajority. Democrats control eight seats. Members serve four-year staggered terms; half the seats will be up for election next year.
District 32 is in the southwestern part of the state, including Lawton and Comanche County. Republican John Montgomery resigned in August.
Four candidates are seeking the Republican nomination.
Two candidates are competing in the Democratic primary. Johnny Jernigan returns for his second attempt to win the seat. He was the party's nominee in 2022, losing to Montgomery by a 67% to 33% margin in the general election.
Winners will advance to the December 12 general election. Polls close at 8:00 PM Eastern Time.
