Voters in California's 20th congressional district will fill one of five U.S. House vacancies on Tuesday. The winner will complete the term of former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R), who resigned at the end of last year.
Both candidates that advanced from the March 19 top two special primary were Republicans, so the party is guaranteed to retain the seat. This will increase the GOP partisan edge to 218-213.
The runoff features State Assemblyman Vince Fong and Tulare County Sheriff Mike Boudreaux. Fong is McCarthy's handpicked successor, and he has subsequently been endorsed by Donald Trump and almost all GOP members of the California U.S. House delegation.
