Embattled Rep. George Santos Won't Seek Reelection

Rep. George Santos (NY-03) said Thursday that he won't run for reelection in 2024. The move came after the release of a House Ethics Committee report detailing "substantial evidence" that the freshman Republican violated federal law.

Santos blasted the ethics committee in making his announcement.

Santos is already under a 23-count federal indictment for a variety of alleged criminal offenses. He recently survived an expulsion attempt in the House. Another motion to remove him may be introduced later this week, with a vote after the Thanksgiving recess.

New York District 3

The district is primarily in northern Nassau County on Long Island. Santos was elected by a 54% to 46% margin after incumbent Democrat Tom Suozzi retired in an unsuccessful bid for governor. Suozzi announced last month he was running to reclaim the seat next year.
