McCain wins Missouri

November 20th, 2008   ·   10 Comments   ·     ·   URI

For the first time since 1956, and only the 2nd time in the last 104 years, the “Show Me State” got it wrong, as McCain has won that state’s 11 electoral votes.
The Electors will meet on December 15 to vote.   If all remain faithful and there are no voting errors, the final tally of [...]

Obama Wins North Carolina

November 6th, 2008   ·   16 Comments   ·     ·   URI

The Associated Press has called North Carolina for Obama.  We’ve updated the home page map to reflect this.   The last time it voted for a Democrat was Carter in 1976.  Missouri remains too close to call, awaiting the count of 7,100 provisional ballots.  It is believed McCain has a slight edge there.  If he wins, [...]

Pennsylvania Approaching Swing Status

November 1st, 2008   ·   20 Comments   ·     ·   URI

The polls are definitely closing in Pennsylvania, with the last four polls coming in at a 4 to 6% lead for Obama.    Not really seeing this narrowing trend in many other states.  Sen. McCain has pushed hard in PA, and this may be making a difference.
Just for the sake of argument, let’s say McCain [...]

About this Site
270towin.com is an interactive Electoral College map for 2012 and a history of Presidential elections in the United States. Since electoral votes are generally allocated on an "all or none" basis by state, the election of a U.S President is about winning the popular vote in enough states to achieve 270 electoral votes, a majority of the 538 that are available. It is not about getting the most overall popular votes, as we saw in the 2000 election, when the electoral vote winner (Bush) and the popular vote winner (Gore) were different.
